Back-to-school season is in full swing, and nonprofit online Western Governors University (WGU) is making it easier for working adults in Tennessee to make their education goals a reality by awarding up to $50,000 in Back to School Scholarships.

Multiple scholarships will be awarded to candidates based on academic record, financial need, readiness for online study at WGU, and current competency, plus other considerations.

Open to new students in any of the more than 60 bachelor's and master's degree programs offered at WGU, each Back to School Scholarship is valued at up to $2,500 ($625 per term, for up to four terms). Students can apply online at www.wgu.edu/B2S through Oct. 31.

"At WGU, helping students succeed academically and in their careers without incurring excessive debt is an important part of our mission," said Kimberly K. Estep, Vice President of WGU's Southeast region. "Our Back to School Scholarship is one of the many ways we do just that. In recent years, we have provided more than $1.08 million in scholarships to students from Tennessee, and this new scholarship opportunity allows us to help more working adults continue their educations."

WGU is an accredited, nonprofit, higher-education institution that has long set the standard for digital learning. Its online, competency-based curriculum provides the flexibility and cost-effectiveness necessary to accommodate adult students who wish to advance their careers in in-demand fields including health care, technology, education, and business. In Tennessee, WGU has 4,500 students and more than 6,500 graduates.
