Only 2 traffic fatalities in 2013

Cannon County had 2 fatal crashes in 2013.

Jan. 7 on Sunny Slope Road 2-year-old Shea Hooper was fatally injured when the car she was a passenger in ran off the roadway and over turned. The car was driven by Amanda Young.

April 6 on State Highway 53, Daniel J. Dotson was killed when the motorcycle he was driving struck a tractor trailer while passing.

Both the Chattanooga District and Cookeville District (which includes Cannon County) both experienced a decrease in fatal accidents.

The Chattanooga District had the largest decrease in the state with Bradley County having the largest decrease of any county in the state at -16. Grundy County had the greatest increase in the region at +6.

Statewide the preliminary totals are down 27 fatal crashes and under 1,000 for only the third time in 50 years. In 2009 Tennessee had 946 and 2011 the total was 986.

Another positive note, Chattanooga and Cookeville regions combined for a preliminary total of 185 fatalities which is 41 less than last year which was 226 and 11 less than the best year ever when the total was 194 in 2009 and 2011.
