Middle Tennessee Electric officials are warning members about a scam where a Hispanic-speaking male, who identifies himself as a Middle Tennessee Electric employee, is contacting members and attempting to collect bill payments, claiming the account is past due.
“Members late on bill payments may receive an automated phone call reminding them of their past due bill,” MTEMC Communications Coordinator Todd Palmer said, “but they would never receive a call asking members for their private information.”
The caller in this situation is encouraging members to get a prepaid debit card and provide that number over the phone.
“For those members wishing to pay over the phone we encourage them to initiate the call to MTEMC,” Palmer said.
Bill payment methods at MTEMC include bank draft, on-line bill pay, pay by phone, pay by mail and in person. For additional information on ways to pay, interested persons can visit www. mtemc.com or call member service at 1-877-777-9020.
Middle Tennessee Electric Membership Corporation, one of the nation's largest electric distribution cooperatives, serves approximately 190,000 members in Williamson, Rutherford, Wilson and Cannon counties.
