The Cannon County Lions and Lionettes high school basketball teams open their regular season tonight in Woodbury at Robert A. Harris Gymnasium as they host the Shelbyville Golden Eaglettes and Eagles teams.
The Shelbyville girls look to get back to their former glory as they dominated basketball in the 80s-90s. Last season the team posted a 10-17 record and lost the opening game of the season in Shelbyville to Cannon County 62-52.
Bud Brandon takes the reins on a rebuilding year for Cannon after losing six seniors on last years 19 win season. One starter returns for Cannon this season.
It's been four years since the Golden Eagles posted more than 5 wins in a year. Last season the Eagles were 5-22 and Cannon was able to give then first year head coach Jason Knowles his first win in as many games. This is a rebuilding year for the Lions who posted 18 wins on the season last year including a third place finish in District 8-AA's regular season.
Tonight's games will tip off at 6:00p with the girls game.
