Middle Tennessee State University’s Department of Theatre and Dance students are proud to present “The Wolves,” a coming-of-age play that follows the experience of a high school girls’ indoor soccer team.
“The Wolves” runs Tuesday, Oct. 7, through Friday, Oct. 10, at 7:30 p.m. at MTSU’s Debra K. Anderson Studio Theatre located inside the Boutwell Dramatic Arts Building at 615B Champion Way. The entrance to the lobby is off of MTSU Blvd.

Tickets are $10 for general admission, $7 for seniors and $5 for MTSU students. They can be purchased online at https://app.arts-people.com/index.php or at the box office before each performance. No late entry will be permitted after the box office closes.

Directed by assistant professor Lauren Shouse, “The Wolves” was written by Sarah DeLappe and asks questions about the essence of girlhood and what it means to be a woman, especially in today’s society.

Shouse said the play challenges the notion of what it means to be a “good young woman,” giving the characters the space to navigate their relationships and choices outside of their parents and classmates.

Through their conversations about everything from politics and humanitarian crises to relationships and personal tragedies, DeLappe creates a powerful portrait of young women coming of age.

The drama unfolds entirely during the team’s pregame warm-ups as nine teenage girls navigate complex issues of adolescence, identity, and social dynamics while demonstrating their athletic skills.

The play is notable for its authentic dialogue, overlapping conversations, and focus on female athletes as complex individuals rather than stereotypes.

“The Wolves” was a finalist for the 2017 Pulitzer Prize for Drama and has been praised for its fresh perspective on teenage girlhood and female camaraderie.
