With great sadness the family of Thomas E. Powell, age 82, of North Charleston, SC announce that he has entered into eternal rest and is now reunited with his loving wife of 52 years, Shirley Ann Powell.

On Sunday, March 3, 2013 he passed away peacefully at his home. Tom was born in Cannon County Tennessee on October 28, 1930 to Bertha & Eugene Powell who both preceded him in death.

He was a member of Masonic Lodge #234, and a member of the Joint Base Charleston Chapel. He entered into the air force in 1949. During his military career he served in Korea and flew on B-26’s, C-47’s, 124’s & C-141’s. He also received numerous awards before his retirement in 1983 from The 76th MAS including the Air Force Commendation Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, Korean Service Medal, Air Force Longevity Service Award, National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Armed Forces Presidential Unit Citation, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award, Republic of Korea Medal & United Nations Service Medal.

Tom married the love of his life on December 23, 1950 in Gainesville Texas. During Mr. Powell’s 30 year Military Career, the family lived in Texas, Delaware, Oklahoma and in 1971 they settled in South Carolina. C.B. (Jack) Powell, brother preceded him in death.

He is survived by his sister, Liz (Jim) Rossman  of Sun City Fl.; sister in law, Lola Powell of Franklin NC; Sons, E Blake Powell of Miami Fl., David (Claudia) Powell  of Summerville SC, John (Tammy Gadbury) Powell of Simpsonville SC, Guy (Tammy) Powell of Huger SC;  Grandchildren, Captain David Powell, Elizabeth Powell, Margaret Powell, Anna Powell, Samuel Powell & Kate Powell and several cousins, nieces & nephews. The family will receive visitors from 11:30-1:00 at Carolina Memorial Park 7113 Rivers Ave, North Charleston, SC 29406 with services commencing at 1:00 PM on Friday, March 8, 2013 with David Surrett officiating. There will be no graveside services. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Lung Association 44-A Markfield Dr. Charleston SC 29407.
