J.C. Slatton Jr., 85, died Friday, Aug. 28, 2010 at River Park Hospital in McMinnville following an extended illness.
A native of Warren County, he was the retired owner of Woodbury Stone.
He served his community as an elected Commissioner of the Warren County Court (1978-1986), past president of the Tennessee Crushed Stone Assoc., served on executive committees of the Black Fox Boy Scout District, past member of Exchange Club, Rotary Club; director of Warren Co. Utility District; member of Southern Senior Golf Assoc. and Volunteer State Senior Golf Assoc. and served as director of McMinnville Country Club.
Survivors include his wife, Florence Elaine Dunbar Slatton, McMinnville; son and daughter-in-law, J.C. "Jay" and Elbia Slatton III, McMinnville; daughter, Kathy Bonnin, Milwaukee, WI; four grandchildren, Olivia Slatton, Yyonne Bonnin Krueger, Laurene Page Slatton, Valeria Slatton; two great-grandchildren, Emma Mae and Grant Krueger; sister, Virginia Hammer, McMinnville; sister-in-law, Janie Bragg, McMinnville; nieces and nephews, Brenda Martin, Debbie Jacobs, Jay Bragg, Bee Patterson and McQuiddy Bragg.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Julius C. and Rowena Cope Slatton; step-mother, Ruby Smith Bragg Slatton; sister, Clydie Slatton; step-sister, Rhea Boyd and step-brother, Tom Bragg.
He attended the Central Church of Christ. Memorial contributions may be made to the Central Church of Christ Retirement Center or charity of your choice.
Visitation will be Saturday, Aug. 28 from 5 to 8 p.m. and Sunday, Aug. 29 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at High Funeral Home in McMinnville.
Graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 29 at Mt. View Cemetery with James Vandiver officiating.
