Citizens expressed their opinions Saturday (Aug. 10) on a proposed 5 cent property tax hike.

The proposed increase will go for a 3 percent raise for county employees, will increase state-mandated salaries for some public officials and will fund two School Reserve Officers for Cannon County Schools.

The full Cannon County Commission was expected to vote on the property tax hike at their Tuesday meeting.
Several of those speaking in favor of the increase addressed the need for improved security at Cannon County High School.

Only four citizens voiced their opinion as being against the tax hike.
