Cannon County’s girls cross country team dominated the competition to win the Forrest All-Comers Meet. It marked the second win of the season for the Lionettes.

The Lions also had a strong showing, capturing a second-place finish out of the 14-team field.

Freshman sensation Elva Magana finished first overall with a time of 22:06.94 in the 5000-meter event. Magana and Macy Clements (23:43.36), who finished fourth, medaled. Jordan Turney and Devin Burgess medaled on the boys side.

The Lionettes’ top seven runners finished in the top 17 amongst the 73-person field. Cannon County (36 points) easily raced away from second-place Shelbyville (53) and third-place Friendship Christian (63).

Madison Walkup (25:21.81) and Jessica Elmy (25:54.34) were seventh and ninth, respectively. The Lionettes had their most complete showing to date with Katie Hickman (27:12.16) finishing 15th, Sara Hickman (27:13.62) was 16th and Lauren Turney (28:07.53) was 17th.

The boys continued their consistent season with an impressive outing against a deep field.

Cannon County narrowly missed a first-place finish. The Lions totaled 77 points, 22 behind first-place Page. Cannon County finished ahead of third-place Shelbyville (80) and fourth-place Friendship Christian (144).

Cannon County’s top seven runners all finished in the top 36 of the 130- person field.

In addition to Turney and Burgess, Jake Burdick was also in the Top 10, finishing eighth with a 18:47.45 for the 5000-meter run.

Depth has been a key for the Lions all season and this meet was no different.

Clay Luker (20:44.38) finished 29th, Will Bailey (21:09.02) was 31st, TJ Paul (21:14.91) was 32nd and Josh Williams (21.32.41) finished 36th to help the Lions finish near the front of the pack.
