Deputies recently arrested a Cannon County woman on suspicion of helping a man assault her boyfriend Sept. 1 outside of a home on Orville Duke Road in Morrison.

Regina Smith is accused of picking up her boyfriend, Jesse Scott, and taking him to another friend's house to be ambushed by Bo Mitchell, who was hiding behind a bush when the couple arrived at the scene.

Smith is facing one count of facilitation to assault and Mitchell has been charged with assault in connection with the incident, according to a Cannon County Sheriff's Department investigative report filed by Deputy Steve McMillen.

Authorities did not learn about the incident until Scott's employer called the Sheriff's Department, saying an employee of his had been assaulted three days earlier by a male subject.

"He advised me that (Scott) had been beaten pretty bad," McMillen reported, adding he and a sergeant then went to interview Scott about the incident.

"We went to (another home on) Orville Duke Road, where we made contact with Scott," he reported. "As we spoke with him, we observed that he had two black eyes and numerous scratches to his face and back."

Scott told deputies Mitchell attacked him, as he was waiting for Smith to return to the car. Although he remembered being punched in the face once, Scott said he could not remember how he received the other injuries.

"He said (Mitchell) must have pulled him out of the vehicle and continued to beat him," McMillen reported, adding after Scott regained consciousness he walked home alone.

Scott later learned that he was assaulted for allegedly stealing Mitchell's tools - a claim he flatly denied during his interview with law enforcement officials.
