Congregate noon meals are provided at Senior Citizens Centers located in all 14 Upper Cumberland Counties. Anyone age 60 or older is eligible to receive a meal at the congregate site. In order to assure a meal, reservations must be made the day before. Nutrition education is provided monthly to the congregate participants and also to the home delivered clients, keeping seniors abreast of updates in the area of nutritional needs and breakthroughs.
“Some of the area Senior Citizens Centers will be closing for the holidays, but the Upper Cumberland Human Resource Agency (UCHRA) will continue to be serving the noon meals.” stated Linda Tramel, Field Services and Elderly Nutrition Director, “However, there will be some days this month we will not be serving meals.”
The dates there will be no meals served are: December 23, 24, 27 and 31.
“Our Elderly Nutrition program is very important to our region.” stated Phyllis Bennett Executive Director of the UCHRA, “We are able to provide a hot meal to the residents of the Upper Cumberland in an atmosphere of community with others. I would also like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.”
Last fiscal year (2009-2010) UCHRA served 86,259 congregate meals in the 14 county region of the Upper Cumberland. If you or someone you know would like to participate in congregate meals please call your local county UCHRA office or nutrition site. We ask for a twenty four hour advanced notice.
