I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to everyone that participated in our Friends of After School Kids, First Annual Horse Show. I especially want to thank the American Legion Post 279 for all their hard work in helping in the concession stand. This was after they worked at "Red Apple Days" all day.

I also want to shout out a big THANK YOU to the Cannon Courier and WBRY for helping to get the word out to Woodbury and surrounding counties. We appreciate all that attended and without the NSSHA working with us, this would have not been possible. I don't know how to put into words to everyone who participated in this event just how much you all were truly appreciated.

The Friends of After School Kids have been invited to the Piggin Around Festival sponsored by the American Legion slated for September 27 & 28 at the Fairgrounds. We are very excited to be offered the opportunity to be a part of this fun event. I will tell you, anywhere this group shows up it is bound to be fun with stories to make your sides hurt from laughter. Not only do they make anything they do fun, it is a chance to get to know these fine Veteran's better, and to say Thank You for their service so we can remain free in our country.

The Board for Friends of After School Kid's are planning to sponsor a Horse Ride in October, however we need to get all of our details worked out on that still. There will more information on this soon.

The Board for Friends of After School Kid's are also excited to sponsor Woodbury's First "Bean & Cornbread Festival scheduled for November 2, with a rain date set for November 9, 2013. This will be open to the "BEST COOKS IN CANNON COUNTY". Our Bean and Cornbread Festival with have three categories for beans and cornbread. We would like for you to join us to see who will be named the Best Bean and the Best Cornbread Cook. Our entry fee will again benefit the children of Cannon County. Beans to be cooked are Pinto, White and Green Beans, Cornbread is Regular, Cracklin and Fritters (or as I know it Fried Cornbread) The entry fee will be $10.00 per category entered. We will have three judges to make the hard decision on the entries.

I, for one would not want this job because I know there are some mighty fine cook's in the great town of Woodbury. In addition to the Judges, tickets will be available for purchase for the "Community Choice Award" in all three categories. There will be homemade desserts for sale and of course drinks. We haven't decided what else we will add to this event but can promise it will be a good time for all who join us. Please contact me at rcook3905@comcast.net or call me at 615-542-0396 for an entry form.

The "Friends of after school kids"  want to express our sincere appreciation to all of the fine citizens and businesses of this great community; and to the American Legion Post 279 for your truly outstanding support of the "Friends of After School Kids" First Annual Spotted Horse Show on Saturday, August 3rd.

All of your generous support goes toward the After School Kids. This is an important and vital program for our kids in Cannon County. If you want to see a great program in action, visit one of the elementary schools after school programs, and see what a wonderful program it is. These kids are the future leaders of this great nation.

We want them to have the best, so that they are prepared to lead this country in the future. We also want to express our sincere appreciation to Linda Bedwell, Director of the After School Program, for her outstanding job of keeping this program alive and well for Cannon County Kids.
