A Smyrna man and a Murfreesboro woman are facing charges following a recent traffic stop on Meadowbrook Dr. in Woodbury.

Patrolman John House observed a green Buick traveling south on South McCrary St. on April 13 in a erratic manner. He turned around and was three cars behind the Buick when the driver swerved and turned west onto Meadowbrook Dr. without using its right turn signal, which caused two other vehicles to put on their brakes to avoid rear end accidents.

Patrolman House observed the vehicle pull into Double E Bargain Barn and he pulled in behind it. When the driver exited he was unsteady on his feet. The officer could smell a strong odor of alcohol coming from the driver, who presented an ID Only card which showed he was a DUI Offender and identified him as Jamie Dean Nicholson, 120 Belaire Dr., Smyrna.

When asked why he was driving, Nicholson said, “Just trying to find a place to live, came down here to a friends who said he had a place.”

A female passenger, Terrie Patton Royse, 2683 Cotton Ct., Murfreesboro, stated the car belonged to her. When asked for identification, Royse presented an ID Only card which showed she was also a DUI Offender.

When asked how much he had to drink, Nicholson said, “One when I got off work about two hours ago. My son went to the prom and we saw him off.”

Nicholson said he was not on any medication. Following a field sobriety test, Patrolman House placed Nicholson under arrest for DUI 2nd Offense and Driving While License Revoked 6th Offense. A search of Nicholson uncovered a cellophane wrapper in his left front pant pocket which contained two Lortab and one Soma tablets and he was also charged with Possession of a Schedule III Narcotic and Possession of a Legend Drug.

A search of the vehicle found an open six-pack of Busch beer on the floorboard where Royse was seated,  and an open bottle of Burnettes Pineapple Vodka on the back floorboard. A cup of the vodka mix was found in the cup holder between the front seats. Nicholson was also charged with Open Container.

Royse, who is the car’s owner, admitted she knew Nicholson’s license was revoked. She was arrested for DUI By Consent for allowing him to drive. A search of her purse revealed a two-inch cut straw with white powdery in it. She was also charged with Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

Nicholson’s bond was set at $13,500. Royse’s bond was set at $8,000. Both are set to appear in court on May 15.

Woodbury Police Chief Kevin Mooneyham and Cannon County Sheriff’s Deputy Brandon Gullett assisted in the investigation.
