National Wrestling Hall Of Fame To Celebrate 2009 Induction

The Tennessee Chapter of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame will induct nine new members at a banquet to be held at the Marriott Nashville Airport on Saturday, October 24.

Receiving their award for "Lifetime Service to Wrestling" are Tony Bradley (coach), Scott Burnette (Nashville Athletic Director and former coach), Jack Faircloth (referee), Joe Black Hayes (former coach and referee), Walt Holmes (coach), Artie Manning (coach and state tournament director), Doug Newman (coach), Jim Simpson (referee and coach), and Joe Wiggins (former referee).

The Hall of Fame reception and preview of inductees’ memorabilia will begin at 5:00 p.m. with the banquet scheduled for 6 p.m.

Tickets are $50 and checks (payable to the Tn Chapter/National Wrestling Hall of Fame) are to be mailed to:

* TONY BRADLEY - Coach . lives in Memphis area
current head coach at Germantown High School, 1982-present . his teams have placed in the top seven at the state duals on seven occasions . served as head coach at Oakhaven Baptist Academy, 1978-82 . has worked with Mid South wrestling in the Memphis area since the early 1990s .

* SCOTT BRUNETTE - Coach/Administration
Coached at Whites Creek and McGavock . was the first wrestling coach at McGavock . current director of athletics for Metro Nashville schools . 1984 Tennessee Athletic Coaches Association State High School Wrestling Co-Coach of the Year.

* JACK FAIRCLOTH - Official
Wrestling official since 1978 . served as vice president of Mid-Tennessee Wrestling Officials Assoc. for seven years . training officer for officials for 10 years.

*JOE BLACK HAYES - Coach/Official . lives in Murfreesboro, Tenn.
Wrestling official for 24 years, 1951-1974 . founded the wrestling program at Middle Tennessee State in 1950 and coached through 1954 . wrestled and played football at UT . Halls of Fame: (3) Middle Tenn. State, University, Cumberland University and East Tennessee Football.

* WALT HOLMES - Coach . lives in Memphis area
Current head coach at Houston High School (Germantown), 1998-present . former head coach at Kirby High School, 1990-1997 . Current West Tennessee director for the Tennessee Wrestling Federation . coaching record: 266-104-2 . has coached seven state champions and 33 state medalists and three high school All-Americans . his teams have finished in the top 10 at the state traditional tournament seven times.

* ARTIE MANNING - Coach . lives in Clarksville
27-year coaching career and current assistant wrestling coach at Clarksville High School . founded the first USA Freestyle Wrestling Kids Club in the Clarksville area in 1989 . current president of the Clarksville Wrestling Booster Club . driving force in building the Clarksville HS wrestling facility which was named the Artie Manning Wrestling Building in 2006 . director of state duals tournament, 2000-2009 . has coached four state champions . wrestled at Sewanee Military Academy.

* DOUG NEWMAN - Coach . lives in Chatsworth, Ga.
Former head wrestling coach at Goodlettsville, Hunters Lane and Hillwood . coached 24 state medalists, including one state champion . first director of the TSSAA state duals in 1987 . served as tournament director, 1987-1990 . former state director for AAU wrestling.

* JIM SIMPSON - Official/Coach ... Lives in Nashville area.
Wrestling official for 29 years; 1981-present . current treasurer of the Middle Tennessee Wrestling Officials Association . past president of the Middle Tennessee Wrestling Officials Association . current president of the Nashville Catholic Youth Wrestling League . current head coach of Nashville Catholic Wrestling . wrestled three years for Father Ryan . 1978 state runner-up . wrestled two years at MTSU
