Woodbury Assistant Police Chief Kevin Mooneyham reported that Lawson Thomas came to the police department on June 27, seeking a warrant against Kyle Ortkiese for taking his truck without permission.

Ortkiese had taken the truck on June 12 and wreck it in the 900 block of Sunny Slope Rd. Lawson wanted to report the truck as stolen, but was given a warrant for joyriding.

Asst. Chief Mooneyham spoke with Ortkiese on June 12, who admitted to taking the truck without Lawson’s permission, but was taking it to get a load of scrap metal, and then returning to Lawson’s residence.

Due to Ortkiese not having the intent to deprive Lawson of the ownership of the truck, it was decided to charge Kyle with joyriding and not theft.

Ortkiese was picked up at Lawson Thomas’ residence and transported to the Cannon County Jail for booking. He was released on his own recognizance. Initial court date is July 19.
