Man surrenders after standoff with police

A suspect is in custody following a two-hour standoff with Rutherford County Sheriff's Department Thursday morning.

According to Rutherford County sheriff's deputies, the standoff occurred at an apartment on High Meadow Drive off Gresham Lane .

The man also tried to remove a tattoo on his arm with the knife, according to WGNS Radio.

The suspect has been identified as 42-year-old Christopher Coelho.

Officers found a 22-caliber semi-automatic rifle and two large survival knives in his apartment.

Authorities said Coelho was wanted in Cannon County for violating his probation.

He was extremely intoxicated at the time of his arrest and taken to Middle Tennessee Medical Center for treatment.

When he is released he will be booked into Rutherford County jail where he will be held on the Cannon County charges.
