Janice Burgess, Melisa Anderson, Chalreles, Burgess, Brandy Sullivan, and a little helper creating the Master Meat Sauce.
On Tuesday, March 8th, we discussed the importance of the USDA's MyPyramid to determine an individual's dietary needs as well as using the MyPyramid as a resource to plan healthy meals for a family.
The hands-on cooking included creating a Master Meat Sauce in a large quantity so that it can be frozen in recipe portions. It is a basic tomato based meat sauce that could be used in various recipes such as spaghetti, chili, tacos, etc.
Freezing the prepared meat sauce saves time for busy families, especially during the week, by pulling it out of the freezer and simply adding appropiate seasonings for the intended recipe.
