Hollis Gets 5-Year Sentence For Violating Probation

A local woman was sentenced to 5 years in prison Thursday for violating probation.

Judge Robert Corlew handed down the sentence to Amanda Hollis after she entered a guilty plea to the charge in Cannon County Circuit Court.

Hollis also agreed to waive application for a suspended sentence. She has been arrested and convicted numerous times on a variety of charges over the last few years. As part of her sentence she was given credit for time served.

Hollis also pled guilty to the charge of DUI 2nd Offense. She received a sentence of 11 months, 29 days, which will run concurrent with her VOP sentence. She also agreed to waive application for a suspended sentence on that conviction.

In addition to the jail sentence on the DUI conviction, Hollis was fined $600, ordered to pay court costs, and her license was revoked for two years. She will also be classified as a habitual motor vehicle offender and will not be able to obtain a driver's license for the next three years. She was ordered to receive alcohol and drug treatment.

Charges of simple possession or a Schedule II drug and violation of the financial responsibility law were dismissed.

In other cases Thursday:

• Robert Michael Mason was appointed the public defender and assessed a fee of $150 by Judge Corlew. He faces a charge of violation of probation. Mason also has several cases pending in General Sessions Court and has a preliminary hearing set for Sept. 6.

• Britney Watlington was granted her request to have her 60-day sentence for violation of probation amended so that she can serve part of the time on weekends while she is attending Volunteer State Community College.
