Nashville songwriters Rick and Janis Carnes will be performing live at Bremm's Heavenly Cafe on Friday night of this week.

The Carnes have earned 40 platinum albums with songs recorded by artists such as Garth Brooks, Reba McEntire, Alabama, Steve Wariner, Pam Tillis and Dean Martin.

Rick's song "I Can't Even Get the Blues No More" was McEntire's first number one single, and "Long Neck Bottle" recorded by Brooks set a Billboard magazine record by entering the charts at No. 10.

Rick, president of the Songwriters Guild of America, moved from his native Memphis to Nashville in 1978 with his wife, Janis, and the duo signed their first record deal with RCA, then Elektra Asylum, Warner Bros. and MCA.

Rick and Janis co-wrote with Chip Harding three top ten hits for The Whites "You Put The Blue In Me," Hangin' Around" and "Pins and Needles."

They also worked as a co-writing team penning the the jazz ballad "Irresistible" which was recently featured in the Sony Pictures Classic movie "Saving Face" and the swing song "I'm Hanging Around" recorded by Dean Martin.

Rick also had success with album cuts for such artists as Conway Twitty, Karen Brooks, Loretta Lynn, Lacy J. Dalton, Johnny Rodriguez, Janie Fricke, Ronnie McDowell, T.G. Shepard and Pam Tillis.

Music has woven itself into the fabric of Janis’ life.

“For some reason, I sing everything instead of saying it,” she says. “This has turned my home into a never-ending opera. My children grew up singing their responses to some of my spontaneously generated tunes, such as What would you like for Breakfast? and Has Anyone Let the Dog Out?  For us, it seemed entirely normal to burst into song (or even dance) at any and every opportunity.”
