A small group of individuals in Cannon County are on the hunt for headstones. Specifically those small and forgotten cemeteries and stones in Cannon County.

The group has established a website, Cannon County Cemeteries. This site is different from many of it's kind. Not only does it give the names available, GPS Coordinates and maps, it also provides photos of each stone.

The local map available from the County Executive office has been invaluable on locating some cemeteries in the area, but after only a month of work the group has already located over 10 that aren't listed.

Rebecca Murray, who is leading this particular project. states, "For a county so proud of our history it's a shame that many of these cemeteries are in such a sad state and in need of repair. Some stones are already lost forever and many more are to follow. We've found Revolutionary War and Civil War Veterans; mothers and fathers. These are our ancestors. They should be taken care of and protected."

The group is asking for your help. If you have any cemeteries on your property, please e-mail your information to: beckyrlsm@yahoo.com

Check out their website www.sites.google.com/site/cannoncountycemeteries to see if any cemeteries in your area have been added yet.
