Grand Jury Indictment Brings Arrest In Home Remodeling Case

Cannon County Sheriff’s deputies served a sealed indictment on Monday, January 25 after Grand Jury action on Friday, January 22, 2010.

Paul Warren of 210 Hayes Street in Woodbury was picked up and charged in a two-count indictment for Misapplication of Contract Payments and Theft.

According to Sheriff’s Investigator Charlie Wilder, the case began in September of 2009 when Deputy Anthony Young responded to the home of Mr.and Mrs. Carroll Mingle of Volunteer View subdivision.

“The Mingles’ had contracted Warren to do some home remodeling for them and had paid him $8,842.00 for brick in July that were never delivered,” said Investigator Wilder. “I made an appointment to talk about the case with Warren but he failed to keep the appointment. Numerous attempts to interview Warren were unsuccessful.”

In October Investigator Wilder spoke with Warren at which time he threatened a lawsuit against the Mingles. Wilder appeared before the Grand Jury on Friday, January 22 and presented the case at which time the indictment was returned.

Warren posted a $25,000 bond was released from custody. His next court date will be at arraignment day on Thursday, February 11 before Circuit Judge Don Ash.

Sheriff Billy Nichols urged residents and especially senior citizens in Cannon County to be aware of “scams” where people are required to pay large sums of money before work is actually performed.

“We have a lot of reputable contractors in our community who do outstanding work for people without any problems,” said Sheriff Nichols. “I remind people to be observant if signing or paying money to people you don’t know. Call us if you have a problem or think something is just not right, we are here to help.”
