Feed America First has been helping to feed hungry families in Cannon County and Middle Tennessee for almost 10 years, and the climate has never been so challenging. Money is tight because of a tough economy, and the need for food is growing at an alarming rate.

Our contention at Feed America First is that hunger is a community problem. We believe that hunger will cease to be a problem in America when we REFUSE to let our neighbors go hungry.

I would like to point out two Cannon County men who are doing their part to help. When Feed America First hosted a food distribution event this winter which fed almost 4,000 families, we were challenged to make sure our volunteers could be identified to those who needed help.

In addition to helping feed people, Tom Ganoe of Auburntown generously donated 120 shirts for the volunteers to wear. Jim Jones of the Shirt Shack in Woodbury rose to the occasion and graciously donated his time and expertise and materials to print the shirts with the Feed America First logo.

Both of these men typify the way a community can take care of its own, and I commend them for that. Cannon County should be proud!
