First Meeting of New American Legion Post Set For Feb. 11

The first meeting of the members and prospective members of the newly chartered American Legion Post #279 will be Thursday, February 11, 2010 at 6:30 p.m. in the Senior Citizens Center in Woodbury.

During this meeting new officers will be elected for the coming year.

Discussions topics will include information on the American Legion. Information brochures will be handed out.

Other topics will include: Initial goals and objectives; meeting dates for 2010; community support projects; support to the Veterans of Cannon County; support to Cannon County's Veterans Service Officer; liaison with American Legion Posts in surrounding Counties; and other topics of interest from our members and prospective members.

Post #279 can do many positive things for our community such as, scholarships for our students, American Legion Boys State, American Legion Children and Youth, American Legion JROTC, American Legion Baseball, American Legion Oratorical, and focus on helping our Veterans of Cannon County.

Veterans this is your chance to help our community and those Veterans who need our help. We need your support. Come on out and be part of an organization that will make us all proud to be part of a good organization doing good things for our community.

• The Veterans and Concerned Citizens for the Veterans of Cannon County will be at the Senior Citizens Center on Lehman Street next to the Veterans Memorial Gymnasium in Woodbury at 6:30 p.m., Thursday, February 4, 2010.
