Drug, Theft Charges Filed Against Pope

A Liberty woman’s two recent encounters with local law enforcement officers may result in the loss of her liberty.

First, Ashley M. Pope, 21 Gassaway Main St., Liberty, was charged with theft under $500 by Woodbury Police Chief Tony Burnett on March 12. Pope allegedly pawned a ring at Shotgun Country Pawn & Gun that had been reported stolen.

Then, on March 16, Pope was charged with possession of a Legend drug without a prescription following a traffic stop on W. Main St. by Woodbury Patrolman Chris Brown. Pope had three Soma tablets in her possession. She said they were her mother’s and she was taking them because her knee hurt.

Bond in the March 12 arrest was set at $2,000. Bond for the March 16 drug charge is $1,000. Initial court date for both cases is April 12.
