Dr. Ming Wang, of Nashville based Wang Vision Cataract & LASIK Center, recently visited Woodbury to present a special educational vision care program for members and guests of the Cannon County Senior Center. The center's director, Deborah Shahan arranged the doctor's talk to provide eye care tips and an in-depth summary of the latest equipment and techniques available whenever vision enhancement procedures become necessary.

Attendees of the educational vision care program received certificates that offered substantial discounts for the vision enhancement procedures performed by Dr. Wang. A very special 'grand prize' drawing made it possible for some to receive even greater discounts.

Dr. Wang grew up in China during the devastating Cultural Revolution when millions of youth were deported and condemned to a lifetime of hard labor and poverty. As a teenager, he learned to play the Chinese er-hu, a musical instrument similar to the violin, and joined the government propaganda program in order to escape deportation.

Following the doctor's talk, he surprised the audience with a mini concert by performing with the er-hu violin that he learned to play as a youngster in China.

After Dr. Wang's program he answered questions concerning his remarkable journey from humble beginnings in China to his current highly respected status in the American medical field. His incredible real life story inspired a character in the nationally acclaimed book, "God's Not Dead", written by Pastor Rice Broocks. The book paved the way for the very popular 2014 blockbuster moved of the same title and included a character that portrayed Dr. Wang. Due to the success of the book and the movie, God's Not Dead 2 has been released. The doctor is often called upon to visit churches in the Middle Tennessee area to offer his testimony and discuss the movies.

Dr. Wang received a very warm welcome by everyone attending his special vision care program. Shown in the photo with the doctor are center staff members, Dericka Simmons, program coordinator (L) and Stevi Vinson, the center's HELP coordinator.

A separate book about Dr. Wang's life, "From Darkness to Sight", has also just been released with proceeds funding his charity. "The Wang Foundation For Sight Restoration". After his proram everyone enjoyed the opportunity to personally meet him, ask questions and get an early autographed copy of the interesting publication.
