An Auburntown man is facing two charges of Assault and one charge of DUI following a March 22 incident.

Cannon County Sheriff’s Deputy Matt Parsley responded to an address on Hollow Springs Rd. following a report of an allegedly drunk man by the name of Charles F. Luebbe, Jr., on a porch.

Prior to his arrival Deputy Parsley was informed Luebbe had left the residence in a white Chevrolet pickup truck. A vehicle matching that description passed Deputy Parsley traveling northbound on State Route 53.

From prior encounters with Luebbe, the deputy knew he lived in Auburntown. The deputy began to follow the vehicle and observed it cross over the yellow center line and the white fog line several times. He initiated his emergency blue lights and the vehicle came to a stop at the Pentecostal Church on Highway 53 near the Woodbury City Limits.

Deputy Parsley made contact with Luebbe and, while speaking with him, the deputy determined Luebbe had been drinking and was intoxicated. Luebbe failed an initial field sobriety test. Luebbe stated he was crippled.

Luebbe was placed into the deputy’s patrol unit for transport to the Cannon County Jail. Luebbe began to curse and threaten the deputy. He was not taken to the hospital for blood testing due to his demeanor as doing so presented an officer safety issue and a safety issue for Luebbe as well.

A DUI warrant was issued. While Deputy Parsley was conducting his investigation, Deputy Seth Perry had spoken with the complainants at the Hollow Springs Rd. address. They said Luebbe had called and stated he was coming over to kill them. They said Luebbe did indeed show up at their address and began to holler and bang on the door. Both pressed charges for assault.

Total bond for Luebbe, of 99 E. Poplar Bluff Rd., Auburntown, was set at $8,000. Initial court date is April 17.
