A Cannon County man was one of two people killed in an accident involving three vehicles Saturday afternoon on State Route 53 in Coffee County.

Larry Dean Davis, who recently retired from the local office of the Upper Cumberland Human Resource Agency after 25 years of service, died at Manchester Medical Center from injuries sustained in the accident.

His wife of 39 years, Barbara D. Davis, was seriously injured in the accident and reportedly underwent surgery Sunday at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

According to the Tennessee Highway Patrol, Barbara Davis was driving north on S.R. 53 in a 1996 Ford Aerostar when her vehicle was struck from behind by a 1999 Ford Escort driven by Dustin K. Kindred of Tullahoma.

The Davis vehicle then spun around and crossed into the southbound lane.

A third vehicle, a 1989 Nissan Sentra being driven by Molloy M. Roberts of Manchester, which was traveling southbound, then struck the Davis’ vehicle, causing Roberts’ vehicle to roll over and the Davis vehicle to land on the passenger side.

Along with Larry Davis, who was a passenger in the vehicle his wife was driving, Roberts was also fatally injured in the accident.

Weather conditions may have been a contributing factor in the accident, as witnesses reported the road was slick from rain.
