A dangerous heat advisory remains in effect from noon today to 7 PM CDT Tuesday.
The heat index readings are expected to reach 105 to 110 degrees during the afternoon on Monday and Tuesday for most of the mid state. There will be little or no relief from the heat at night with low temperatures only dropping to the mid 70s.
* Timing... heat index readings will peak in the afternoon hours from 105 to 110 degrees each day... Monday and Tuesday. The heat is expected to ease by Wednesday.
* Impact... the first to suffer from the heat will be children... the elderly and people with chronic ailments. Heat
exhaustion... heat cramps and heat stroke are possible due to prolonged exposure to the heat.
Precautionary/preparedness actions...
Take extra precautions if you must work or spend time outside. When possible... reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Wear light weight and loose fitted clothing when possible and drink plenty of water. Take frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an emergency - call 9 1 1.
