MURFREESBORO - Ben Leming is wasting no time getting out to meet Middle Tennesseans in the 6th Congressional District. Leming, a Marine Captain and Iraq War veteran, completes his active duty military service tomorrow and kicks off his campaign with a 19-hour tour of the 15 counties in the district beginning with an address in Murfreesboro at 12:01am.

Ben’s wife, Sarah, announced the tour to media and supporters during a Ustream video conference today. Video from the announcement can be found at http://www.ustream.tv/recorded/6535753.

“Ben will spend 19 hours visiting every county in the district- at places where people conduct their daily lives: fire stations, factories, hospitals, yard sales, and diners,” said Sarah Leming.

Ben Leming, a Marine Captain, Naval Academy graduate, and Iraq War helicopter combat veteran, is running in the Democratic Primary to be the next congressman from Tennessee’s 6th Congressional District.

Sarah Leming Remarks April 29, 2010 Announcing Ben Leming District Tour

Hello, I'm Sarah, and I'm Ben Leming's wife. Thank you for joining me in your living rooms, your offices, or wherever you are.  This is a great way for the Ben Leming campaign to reach people to share information to supporters as well as the press.  Again, I thank Stacy and Maria for setting this up.

As many of you who have been following Ben’s campaign know, Ben will be home this weekend, on his first day out of the Marine Corps, and he is hitting the ground running on May 1st.  Before I get into some of the details of Ben’s itinerary, I’d like to take a moment, as Ben’s wife, to share with you what has been going through my mind during the past few days as I have reflected upon Ben’s campaign and what it means to me.

As Ben’s wife, his campaign means that we as a family are making a commitment to the people of the 6th district of Tennessee, and to this country, that Ben will work hard to represent their values, concerns, and needs, and will do so with civility, fairness, and action.  I am proud of Ben for having the courage to take on this challenge and Kyle and Jacob and I fully support his candidacy.  In fact, the boys have each made a campaign contribution of five dollars to their dad.

As a Marine Reservist, his campaign means to me that Ben will bring his much needed experience as a Marine helicopter pilot and intelligence officer to Washington.  Ben is an Iraq war veteran, and has deployed around the middle east, Mediterranean, and Africa.  His experiences and knowledge, combined with the kind of bias for action and leadership that Marines are known for around the world, is just what Congress needs.

As a cancer survivor, a mother, and a student, Ben’s campaign means to me that Ben understands from experience the issues that Middle Tennesseans face, and he will work hard to ensure that we all have affordable access to healthcare, education, and our market economy, so that our children have the same or better opportunities than their parents.

As a frustrated voter, Ben’s campaign means we have someone new, someone fresh, and someone who has the integrity and motivation to fight, and to fight hard, for good governance.  It makes me very happy to see that we have Americans like Ben who are willing to make a difference in Washington when so many Americans believe that Congress has failed to represent the people.

Now, as we’ve been promising since Ben first received permission to be a candidate from the Secretary of the Navy, Ben will be meeting with small groups of community leaders, citizens, and supporters throughout the district, where he will take time to meet folks and listen to their concerns, and hear their ideas.  This is, in my mind, a logical first step to good representation- listening.

Ben’s district tour will begin in his hometown of Murfreesboro at 1201 on May 1st- you can see he’s wasting no time in getting to the people of the 6th district!  Ben will spend the next 19 hours visiting every county in the district- at places where people conduct their daily lives: fire stations, factories, hospitals, yard sales, and diners.  His itinerary will be posted on his website, www.benleming.com, but it is subject to change as at this point planning is still being hammered out.

I hope that you have an opportunity to see Ben when he is on the road during his May 1st tour.  If not, don’t worry, he’ll be back.
