The Cannon County Health Department/Community Health Center recently celebrated National Health Center Week 2010 as part of a campaign to raise awareness about the mission and accomplishments of America’s health centers.

All 14 county health departments in the Upper Cumberland Region are Heath Resources and Services Administration designated community health centers, providing high quality, cost efficient primary health care services to the medically underserved.

Providing a medical home for our patients reduces the need for more costly care such as emergency room visits and avoidable hospital stays. In 2009, 58 percent of persons served in Upper Cumberland community health centers were uninsured.

“Every day in our waiting rooms I witness the value of having a medical home,” said Michael Railling, Cannon County Health Director. “When people have a place to go for primary care, they use it and stay healthy.”
