UCHRA recertification
Began Jan. 2
The Upper Cumberland Human Resource Agency would like to remind those who receive assistance through the Temporary Emergency Food Assis-tance Program, known as Commodities; it is time for recertification of their commodities card. With 2013 deliveries right around the corner, it is very important for recipients to recertify their commodity card with their local county offices prior to the first pick-up date.
Recertification date began Jan. 2.
If you think you or someone you know qualifies for this program, please contact the UCHRA office in your county for more information.

Historical Society
Tuesday, Jan. 14
Cannon County Historical Society members will be sharing tales when they meet at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 14 at the Senior Center.
This month’s meeting will be “show and tell” and “share a tale,” featuring members of the Cannon County Historical Society. Members are asked to bring family heirlooms, documents, pictures, old hand tools, relics or anything interesting to share.
Challenges have gone out to many of the group’s members and others who are capable of telling a tale from bygone days. Some are declared to be true!
The group will meet at 6:30 p.m. for snacks and refreshments. The meeting will begin at 7 p.m.

Banquet, Thursday
Jan. 16
The Cannon County Chamber of Commerce Banquet has been set for Thursday, Jan.16, 2014 at the Arts Center of Cannon County, and will be catered by the Blue Porch Restaurant, beginning at 6:30 pm. Chamber members will be receiving nominations of the new board members. Please RSVP by Jan. 10th, 2014. The cost is $15.00 per person. The Red Cross Bloodmobile will visit Woodbury Jan. 16 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Lions Club Building, 540 W. Adams St.

Beatles review, Saturday, Jan. 18
The band Sixty Four is an acclaimed Beatles revue from Nashville whose members created Sixty Four simply for the love of the Beatles’ music. The band will be performing many Beatles favorites at the Arts Center of Cannon County on Saturday, Jan. 18. Ticket prices are $15 for adults, $12 for seniors and students.

Clear Fork United Meth-odist Church, Big Hill Road in Gassaway will hold a church supper from 3 to 7 p.m. featuring catfish or chicken tenders, choice of pinto, white or green beans, hush puppies, cabbage slaw or veggie salad, french fries, dessert and drink.

Silversneaker Class
Tuesday, Jan. 14
Starting on Jan. 14, the Senior Center will offer the Silversneaker Classic Class on Tuesday nights at 6 p.m. The exercise room will also be open from 5:30 to 7 p.m. This is to provide an exercise option for our many “60+” people in the community who are still working. The class is also available for members who can’t attend some days due to other commitments. Please help us spread the word about this new concept at the Senior Center and help make it a success.
