Michael L. Atnip, 140 Meadowbrook Drive, was first charged on March 14 by Woodbury Patrolman Lowell Womack with aggravated burglary, theft over $1,000, aggravated criminal trespassing and vandalism.

Atnip allegedly entered a home on S. McCrary St. and stole three shotguns, one muzzle loader with scope, three pellet guns, 20 knives and one ring. Total value of the property is estimated at $2, 410.

In the process of allegedly taking the items, Atnip caused damage to a gun cabinet and door jamb in the home.

Atnip incurred an additional charge of theft under $500 on March 18. While he was being sitting in a room at the Woodbury Police Department waiting to be interviewed by Patrolman Womack and Assistant Chief Kevin Mooneyham in reference to the aggravated burglary, Atnip allegedly took a baseball-type hat with “Police” written on the front and removed it from the interview room and building.

Atnip’s total bond was set at $26,000. His initial court date is April 19. During his appearance in Cannon County General Sessions Court Tuesday to request a court-appointed attorney, Atnip’s wife stood up and stated the court needed to order a mental examination for her husband.
