Border War Tournament Tips Off Hoops Season

The 2011 Woodbury Grammar Border War Basketball Tournament will have a true battle of the borders.

Four area grammar schools will test their early-season skills against teams from neighboring borders as the 2011-12 basketball season begins Monday (Oct. 24).

Defending boys champion Woodland will take the court Tuesday in hopes of repeating as Border Wars champions; however, there will be a new girls champion as Auburn is participating in the Best of the West Tournament at DeKalb West.

Games will take place Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday at Woodbury Grammar School.

First-round games take place Monday and Tuesday. The winners are assured two additional games, but the losing teams play only one game. Woodland's girls will face DeKalb West in the opening game Monday at 4:30 p.m. The second girls game Monday will feature West Side against Sparta at 7 p.m.

The boys games Monday feature East Side against DeKalb Middle at 5:45 p.m., followed by Woodbury taking on Sparta at 8:15 p.m. Tuesday's first round games include Woodbury against Debrell girls at 4:30, followed by Woodland and Debrell boys at 5:45. East Side's girls face North Elementary at 7 p.m., and West Side boys face North at 8:15 p.m.
