BLACK: Obama Puts Illegals Ahead Of Americans

This week, the House of Representatives passed an amendment that I authored to prohibit funding for the Obama administration’s newly created illegal alien “Public Advocate” position.

Earlier this year, the Obama administration announced the appointment of this new position to handle complaints and questions about its immigration enforcement policies. This position of “Public Advocate” serves as a point of contact for illegal and criminal immigrants in deportation proceedings as well as illegal alien advocacy and community groups.

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) was not created to act as a lobbying firm for illegal aliens. In fact, when Congress created DHS, it declined to create such a position for those here illegally.

With illegal immigration costing U.S. taxpayers roughly $113 billion each year, one of the last things we should be doing with precious taxpayer dollars is funding an activist for illegal and criminal immigrants who are detained or have been ordered to be deported. The administration needs to instead be using this money for its intended purpose of securing our borders and combating illegal immigration.

There are currently more than 10 million illegal aliens living in this country.  In the last 3 years, 8 states have had to adopt immigration enforcement measures to address the illegal alien populations in their states. This has come to pass because of the Federal government’s failure to secure our borders and enforce our current immigration laws.

Nevertheless, the Department of Justice decided to sue these states for protecting their citizens and enforcing the law. Now the administration seems to think that lobbying on behalf of individuals who have come into our country illegally is a wise use of taxpayer dollars. This is outrageous. My amendment would put a stop to the administration’s latest misuse of taxpayer dollars.

Ultimately, the U.S. government should never put the interests of illegal immigrants ahead of American citizens. I hope the Senate will join me in supporting my amendment to prevent funding for the ill-conceived position of “Public Advocate” for illegal aliens.
