Banner Photo Contest To Launch New County Web Site

The Cannon County Chamber of Commerce is planning a Banner Photo Contest in September to officially kick off the launch of the county's new Web site.

The community website, which can be found online at CannonTN.com, features information about Cannon County, Woodbury, Auburntown and the Chamber of Commerce.

Beginning Sept. 1 and ending Sept. 30, the Banner Photo Contest will be underway. The Banner is the section of the top of the website homepage with rotating pictures.

The contest was approved Tuesday during the regular meeting of the chamber of commerce. Complete details will be announced later this week.

The site was designed by ShortMountainStudios.com, a local graphic and web design firm.

In other business at Tuesday's chamber meeting:

• There was considerable discussion about how to make the annual Color of Fall Car Show, which will be held this year on Sept. 25, more profitable. The event has been the chamber's largest yearly fundraiser, but has seen participation decrease in the last few years.

Ideas discussed to improve profitability included obtaining additional sponsorships, cutting expenditures and increasing advertising. A committee was formed to assist chamber coordinator Carolyn Motley in obtaining sponsors for this year's show.

• Neal Appelbaum, who has been coordinating the effort to regain Tennessee 3-Star Community status for Cannon County, said the county has already regained its status on a conditional basis and that it will officially become one again after the Cannon County Commission approves a Five-Year Strategic Plan. The commission is tentatively scheduled to meet in special session on Aug. 28.

• It was announced that the recent Celebration on the Square earned the chamber $1,060 from booth fees. Expense items were donated.
