REP. BLACK: The Health Care Law’s Broken Promises

Mar 30, 2012 at 04:15 pm by admin

In advance of passing our 2013 Path to Prosperity Budget, I joined my colleagues at a press conference where we focused on the increasing costs of the president’s health care law and how the our budget would repeal the entire health care law, as well as the Medicare-slashing Independent Payment Advisory Board.

At the event, I made sure to highlight how the administration claimed the health care law, “would not add a single dime to the deficit.”  However, the most recent cost estimates from the Congressional Budget Office show that over the next ten years the health care law will cost a staggering $1.76 trillion.  We are already on the verge of a debt crisis, and this health care law would only drive us over that cliff even faster.

As the Supreme Court deliberates on the health care law’s constitutionality, I will continue to work to repeal the law and replace it with common-sense, market-based reforms.  I believe that federal bureaucrats should not be involved in your health care decisions—instead, our system must remain patient-focused, where you and your doctor decide the best course of care.

Diane Black
