Election Commission Registers Young Voters At CCHS

Mar 30, 2010 at 01:54 pm by admin

Kayla Schoen and Kinsey Patterson speak with Mrs. Mayo and Mr. Dobson about the voting process.

Students who will be eligible to vote in November had the opportunity to register Tuesday morning at the High School. Election Commissioner Stanley Dobson and Commission Member Louise Mayo manned a table full of forms, pens, and clipboards in hopes of getting young people involved with the democratic process. "We'd like every senior to register," Dobson said, "they have the right to vote and they should exercise it... I always tell people that they've got no business complaining if they don't vote." Cannon County, The State Of Tennessee, and the entire United States are gearing up for a heated election season. "Any year there's a race for Sheriff things get messy," Dobson explained. "We're trying to get everyone on the same page, obeying all the rules that govern elections." The CCHS registration table usually nets 50-65 registrations. The election commission plans to have additional tables set up at the Red Apple and Good Ole Days festivals to make registration as convenient and painless as possible for voters.
