Upcoming Summer Events, Etc. – As spring leads into summer or the other way around. There are numerous upcoming trips, conferences, and opportunities for our 4-H members for more information regarding any of the programs or activities listed below, please give the 4-H office a call.
Junior High Camp (grades 7 & 8) - Will be held May 29th through June 1st at the Clyde York 4-H Center. The cost for the week is $255 and includes all meals, lodging, camp T-shirt and activities.
Junior 4-H Camp (grades 4th – 6th) - Will be held June 18th – 22nd at the Clyde York 4-H Center. The cost for the week will be $245 and will include all meals, lodging, activities, transportation and camp T-shirt. June 1st is the payment and sign-up deadline. The first payment of $125.00 is due May 1st and the second payment of $120.00 is due June 1st.
4-H Camping is a great way for your 4-Her to develop leadership skills, make new friends, and experience the great outdoors. While at 4-H camp your 4-Her will be able to take full advantage of canoeing, rifle range, fishing, baseball, football, put-put golf, swimming, ga-ga, water and land Olympics, ropes course with zip-line, craft house, and many others. As a special added feature for our junior high camp this year, we will be going to the American Museum of Science and Energy at Oak Ridge. We are also proud to say that our 4-H camp is accredited by the American Camping Association, www.acacamps.org, and are subject to very strict guidelines regarding camp safety, facilities, and supervision.
Livestock Opportunities- Another great opportunity for our 4-H members this spring and summer months is our livestock projects. Opportunities are available for anyone who wishes to exhibit beef, sheep, goats, or dairy. The deadline for ownership of exhibitor’s animals is May 20th. For more information regarding any of the livestock opportunities, please give the 4-H office a call.
County Bread baking Contest- Congratulations to all the winners and participants of our local (or classroom) 4-H bread baking contest, which was held during the March 4-H club meetings. Our county contest will be held at Auburn town Elementary School on Thursday, May 3rd. We will be taking entries from 6:00 until 6:30 p.m. The judging will take place beginning promptly at 6:30 and awards will be given as soon as possible. Please remember that all 4-Hers are eligible to compete in the contest regardless of placing at the classroom contest. Please refer to your yearbook for what to enter for your grade, etc.
4-H Honor Club- ATTENTION ALL 6TH THROUGH 12TH GRADERS!!! If you are looking for a unique, meaningful, and fun group to surround yourself while learning leadership, teamwork, and having a good time, please join us and become a member of the 4-H Honor Club. The 4-H Honor Club is a club specifically for junior high and senior high 4-Hers whose sole purpose is devoted to learning leadership and service learning skills. The group meets monthly and performs service learning projects, and leadership activities. Some of the activities of the group in the past include food and toy drives, landscaping the Lion’s Building, whitewater rafting, bowling, and much more. If you are interested in becoming a member of the 4-H Honor Club, there will be a workshop on Tuesday, April 24th at the 4-H office, beginning at 6:00 p.m. At this meeting, we will complete the application forms and get you well on the way to becoming a member of the 4-H Honor Club.
