NASHVILLE – On Monday, State Representative Stratton Bone (D-Lebanon) and fellow members of the General Assembly heard Democratic Governor Phil Bredesen deliver his final State of the State Address and were presented with copies of the governor’s proposed budget.
During 2010, the Cannon County READS Program will be celebrating its 5th birthday. Renewed efforts are being made to identify and register eligible children that are not participating in this program. In addition, the members of the Cannon County community will be given opportunities to support this program with private donations.
WASHINGTON – Today, the U.S. House of Representatives passed the Cybersecurity Enhancement Act, a bipartisan bill to improve online security in both the public and private sector. “Increased Internet use presents new opportunities for families and businesses in Middle Tennessee and across the nation, but it can also create new vulnerabilities,” Congressman Bart Gordon said. “This bill will strengthen cybersecurity from all sides.”
On Sunday morning (Jan. 31) at 1:01 a.m., Mooretown, Eastside and Woodbury fire departments were paged out to a 10-72 (house fire) on Finny Simmons Rd. When the fire departments arrived the house was fully involved and Midway Fire Department was called in for manpower and water support.

NASHVILLE — Governor Phil Bredesen unveiled his proposal to fund state government for the 2010-2011 fiscal year Monday. Despite being one of the most difficult budgets to date, Senator Mae Beavers expressed concern that the Governor presented a budget that did not go far enough in ensuring fiscal responsibility and adhering to Tennessee’s “pay-as-you-go” history.
