The United Way of Rutherford and Cannon Counties' Success By 6 initiative hosted a Reading Rally at the Cannon County Senior Center Saturday.

The event featured complimentary books, child identification kits, and door prizes.  

Children were entertained with literacy-related activities, storytelling with special guests, face painting, and refreshments. Families also had the opportunity to register for Books from Birth and library cards.  

United Way's Success By 6 initiative provides educational resources to parents and early education programs to the community to ensure all children are ready for kindergarten. For more information about the program, please contact Jennifer Smith at (615) 893-7303.

This was a wonderful, free family event. I hope they do it again next year. The FCCLA and Art students did a great job for the kids with crafts and face painting. They even did a little skit. My kids loved it!
