Born on October 21, 1936, at home on Short Mountain in Cannon County, TN, and passed away on June 3, 2023, at Alive Hospice. He is preceded in death by his parents, Hoyte and Mai Helen Freeman Motley; sister, Joan Cripps; brother-in-law, Bobby Cripps and niece, Nancy Cripps.
He is survived by his wife, Peggy Polk Motley; sons, Robert Curtis Motley (Jessica), of Cottontown, TN, and Lee Hoyte Motley (Emily) of New Hill, NC; sister, Joyce (Don) Gilliland, of White House, TN; grandchildren, Peyton and Jackson Motley, of Franklin, TN; Miller and Ford Motley, of New Hill, NC; and numerous extended family members and friends.
Bob was a longtime member, Sunday School teacher and trustee of St. John's UMC. He was a junior pro football coach and employee of AVCO Aerostructures from 1964-1992. He served his country as a Signal Corps Operator in the US Army, where he was stationed in Fountainbleu, France. He enjoyed classic country, bluegrass, big band music and westerns.
Funeral services are scheduled for Thursday, June 8, 2023, at 12:30PM, at St. John's UMC (6300 Charlotte Avenue) with the Reverend Sandra Griggs officiating. Burial will follow at 2PM, at Middle TN Veterans Cemetery, 7931 McCrory Lane.
Visitation with the Motley family will be on Thursday from 10:30AM until the service time at 12:30PM, all at St. John's UMC.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are encouraged to St. Johns UMC or Alive Hospice (1710 Patterson Street).
