Jessie Carolyn Sneed peacefully departed this life on Friday, July 7, 2023 at the age of 95. She was born in Cannon County on November 25, 1927 to the late Ervin Haley Tassey and Grace White Travis Tassey. Preceded in death by her husband Lawrence Vaught Sneed, and sister Liddy Mai Tassey Tenpenny.
She is survived by daughter, Myra Mai Sneed Mason, grandson Ewin Allen Mason, Jr. (Cheryl), and great grandchildren Dillon Mason, Megan Mason and Morgan Sowder (Mason). Also survived by several beloved cousins, nieces and nephews. She was a member of Antioch Church of Christ.
Carolyn had deep roots in Cannon County where she attended the Old Readyville Elementary School and Woodbury Central High. She was a member of the girls basketball teams during her school years. Her memory remained sharp and she could recall many details of life during the depression and post-war years. She and Lawrence made their home on a farm on the Cannon and Rutherford County line starting in 1944 where they remained the rest of their lives. Carolyn was able to live in her home until just a few months before her death, and was still cooking meals for her guests until very recently. She loved caring for her flowers and plants and feeding and watching the hummingbirds at her porch feeders.
Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 pm Tuesday, July 11 at Woodfin Memorial Chapel, Murfreesboro. Funeral services will be at 2:00 pm Wednesday, July 13 with Brother Tony Smith officiating; burial at Ward's Grove Cemetery on Halls Hill Pike with family and friends serving as pall bearers
