First Baptist Church of Woodbury is pleased to announce that Dr. Dean Anderson became its pastor on June 18. This was the culmination of a 10 month process that began when former pastor Hunter Hay resigned in July of last year.

A committee consisting of church members Adam Bartal, Chairman; Lydia Womack, Carolyn Schwartz, Bruce Haley, and Douglas Jennings was elected by the church in August to seek and recommend a pastoral candidate to the church. The committee received many resumes and spent lots of time in prayer and deliberation before recommending Dr. Anderson to the church.

The committee was allowed to take their time, since the church was under the leadership of Bro. Wade Campbell, who served well as interim pastor during the transition time.

A native of Joelton, Anderson has served the past 18 years as pastor of Trenton Baptist Church, Trenton, KY. Prior to that, he served as Minister of Education and Administration at First Baptist Church, Joelton. He also served as a research analyst while employed by the Baptist Sunday School Board (Now LifeWay Christian Resources), and as assistant to the Vice President for Development of New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary.

Dr. Anderson is a graduate of Montgomery Bell Academy, Vanderbilt University (BA), and New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary, where he earned a Master of Divinity and a Doctorate of Ministry. He is the author of a book, A Sacred Trust: Sermons on the Distinctive Beliefs of Baptists, published by Crossbooks in 2010. He is married to the former Cindy Blackwell, also from Joelton. He is the father of two daughters, and has three grandchildren.

According to Adam Bartal, Pulpit Committee Chairman, "The committee was impressed with Dr. Anderson's preaching and teaching ability, and found that he is a genuine, compassionate people-person who loves God and God's Word."

When asked about being called to the church, Dr. Anderson stated, "Through the process of praying and working with the Pulpit Committee, we became convinced the Lord was leading us to Woodbury and haven't had a doubt since. We love the people, the church, and the community, and very much look forward to being a part of what God is doing at First Baptist and across the area."

Joe Young, First Baptist Deacon Chairman, stated, "The church is already benefitting from Bro. Dean's abilities as a pastor, preacher, and teacher." He further stated, "We want to cordially invite the community to hear Dr. Anderson at one of our services, which are Sundays at 10:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m., and on Wednesdays at 6 p.m." The church is located at 405 W. Main St. in Woodbury.
