The Tennessee Department of Health (TDH) is offering no-cost scholarships for Tennesseans who work in, or plan to work in, tobacco cessation to complete the nationally-accredited Comprehensive Tobacco Treatment Specialist Training Program.
“Successfully quitting tobacco and nicotine can be challenging,” Tennessee Health Commissioner Dr. John Dunn said. “TDH is offering scholarships to provide specialized training equipping professionals interested in expanding access to effective, evidence-based treatment for Tennesseans.”
The scholarships are available through TDH’s Tobacco Use Prevention and Control Program, and the opportunity is designed for medical professionals, behavioral health providers, public health professionals, and others who serve individuals with tobacco and nicotine dependence.
The Duke-UNC Comprehensive Tobacco Treatment Specialist Training Program prepares participants to deliver evidence-based treatment using current standards of care. The course is 100 percent online and combines interactive learning with flexible instruction designed for working professionals.
Scholarships are available for the Fall 2026 and Spring 2027 training sessions.
Medical professionals, behavioral health providers, and others who serve individuals with tobacco use disorder are encouraged to apply at Duke-UNC’s Tennessee training program website.
Tobacco use is one of the leading preventable causes of disease and death, and increasing access to evidence-based treatment is essential to helping more Tennesseans quit successfully.
