Mrs. Betty Ruth Smith, 75, of Woodbury passed away at her home on July 24, 2015. She was born in Hohenwald, TN on December 3, 1939. Her parents were the late James Madison Clifton and Mary Jane (Plunkett) Clifton. She was preceded in death by a brother, Clyde Clifton and sisters, Ethel Flippo, Bonnie Lewis and Nancy Clifton.

She is survived by her husband, Carl Smith of Woodbury; son, David Anthony Smith of Woodbury; daughter, Melissa & Charles Douglas Hostetter of Readyville; brothers, James Edward Clifton of Lavergne and George & May Clifton of Linden; grandchildren, Amber & Joey Oxley, Ashley & Bobby Duncan and Samuel Hostetter; great grandchildren, Cole Oxley, Ella Oxley, Ava Duncan and Cade Duncan.

Mrs. Smith was a devoted member of the New Hope Church of Christ. Her love of the church lead to her desire to teach others about the Bible and the mercy and forgiveness offered through Jesus Christ. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed many different hobbies including flowers, gardening, bird watching, painting and classical music.

Visitation will be held at the New Hope Church of Christ on Monday, July 27, 2015 from 12-2 pm. Funeral services are to follow at the church with Ralph Richardson officiating.
