Second-seeded West Side got all it wanted from a vastly improved Woodbury team before clamping down in the fourth quarter and securing a 36-28 win in the semifinals of the Cannon County Grammar School Tournament at Cannon County High School Thursday (Jan. 26).

Nursing a 29-28 lead going into the fourth quarter, favored West Side turned up the defensive intensity to earn its spot in the championship game. West Side did not allow a point in the fourth quarter and outscored the Lady Cubs 7-0 to take the win.

Kelsie Smith's 12 points led West Side, which also received eight points and seven rebounds from Sydney Elrod and seven points and five rebounds from Ally Parton. Autumn King added seven points and five rebounds in the winning effort.

Rachel Pate led Woodbury with 12 points and Hannah Haley added 10.

Woodbury used a strong second quarter to take a 22-17 lead into the half. West Side regrouped during the intermission and used a 12-6 third quarter to take a 29-28 lead into the final quarter. The Lady Cubs managed just three field goals in the third quarter and were 0-of-15 from the field in the fourth quarter.

EAST SIDE 30
AUBURN 15
Kelli Davis recorded a double double with 20 points and 12 rebounds, both game highs, and added two blocks as top-seed East Side rolled to a 30-15 win against defending champion Auburn in the semifinals of the Cannon County Grammar School Basketball Tournament Thursday (Jan. 26).

Davis scored nine of East Side's 11 points during a game-changing second quarter. East Side outscored Auburn, 11-6, in the second quarter and rolled into the half with a 17-6 advantage. The second quarter proved to be the difference as the teams were virtually even in the second half.

Haylee Mooneyham added four points for East Side, which also received two points each from Lindsey Bowman, Katie Hoskins and Maci Jacobs. Samantha Gaither led Auburn with eight points. Hannah Whited added five and Maleah Scott finished with two.

FIRST ROUND GAMES
AUBURN 22
SHORT MTN. 19
Alayna Reed scored 10 points and Maleah Scott added eight points and game-high 11 rebounds to lead Auburn to a 22-19 win against Short Mountain in a first-round game of the Cannon County Grammar School Basketball Tournament Monday (Jan. 23).

Samantha Gaither added four points and five rebounds for Auburn. Caitlin Miller led Short Mountain with 11 points and four rebounds. Ciara Riddle added six points and six rebounds for the Lady Bears.

WOODBURY 40
WOODLAND 26
Emily Sissom scored 19 points on the strength of nine field goals and pulled three rebounds to lead Woodbury past Woodland, 40-26, in a first-round game. Hannah Haley added seven points, and Rebekah Higgins and Jessica Elmy added six points to lead the Lady Cubs.

Leah Hyatt and Kellie Payne scored five each for Woodland. Bailey Witty and Paige Bauman scored four each for the Lady Warriors.
