West: Ready for fall's cool events?

Am I speeding up the seasons? Guess so, but everyone is ready for fall to arrive thanks to all the hot weather.

Receiving a list of upcoming Cannon County events from the Chamber of Commerce, put a rush on fall. Officially (or at least according to the Farmers Almanac) fall begins on the autumnal equinox which is September 22 this year.

Equinox means "equal night," which means the day and night are just about the same length of time. This happens twice a year with the vernal equinox in late March and the autumnal equinox in late September.

Nowadays, we tend to think fall begins when the time falls back. (Spring forward, fall back) That day is November 6.
At any rate, cool weather should soon arrive. Maybe! The Farmers Almanac is predicting continued "hot, steamy weather" for the rest of August and through September. Cool weather isn't expected to arrive until late October. (Just in time for a frosty Halloween, I suppose.)
Well, here are the upcoming events:

Labor Day Trail Ride
Saturday, September 3-4 and 5th
The Cannon County Walking Horse Assoc. presents the Labor Day Ride. Trail riders will leave the fairgrounds in Woodbury at 11 a.m. on Saturday and ride to the campgrounds on Short Mountain. Enjoy horse shows, food, camping, music & dancing plus trail riding. Contact 615-653-7153.

White Oaks Craft Fair
Saturday, September 10 - Sunday, September 11
White Oaks Craft Fair Weekend at the Arts Center and through out Cannon County. Sales Galore on & around the Square in Woodbury plus a barbecue ompetition at the Short Mountain Distillery. Contact 615-563-2787 for info.

Cannon County Gospel Jamboree
Friday, September 16 - Saturday, September 17
Cannon County Gospel Jamboree will be held at the Covered Arena in Woodbury begins at 6 pm on Friday and 3 pm on Saturday, bring your own chairs. Contact Johnny Duggin at 615-556-4053 for information.

Ignite Music Festival
Saturday, September 17
IGNITE MUSIC FESTIVAL will be held on the grass at The Arts Center on John Bragg Hwy. in Woodbury, Tn. Festival begins at 1 p.m. until 8 p.m. Enjoy a full line-up of bands, BBQ cook-off, Kids Zone and bring your own chairs. Check it out at ignitemissionsandministry.com

Color of Fall Car & Truck Show
Saturday, September 24
The Color of Fall Car & Truck show will be on the Square in Woodbury. Registration begins at 8 a.m. until 12 noon, $20 entry fee. Enjoy DJ music, door prizes, trivia contests, 50/50 drawing and more. Contact 615-563-2222 for information. (Rain Date Saturday, October 1st)

Toy Drive Cruise-In
Saturday, October 8
Toy Drive Cruise-in on the square in Woodbury from 3 to 6:30 pm. DTC will draw for the 32 inch TV, Iron Pig Antiques will draw for a quilt. Bring a toy for children at Christmas Time. Call 615-563-2222 for infor. Cruiser of the Month sponsored by Jennings Jewelers.

Chamber of Commerce Fall Mixer
Thursday, October 13
The Chamber of Commerce Fall Mixer will be held at the Arts Center from 6 to 8 p.m. All chamber members and their guests are invited. Contact 615-563-2222 for further info.

From Memphis to Vegas
Saturday, October 22 and Sunday, October 23
From Memphis to Vegas, a tribute to Elvis starring Tom Duggin will be at The Arts Center. Showtimes are 7:30 on Saturday and 2 p.m. matinee on Sunday.

Cannon Country Christmas
Friday, November 18 and Saturday, November 19
Enjoy A Cannon Merchants Country Christmas, Santa arrives on the square at 5 pm on Friday, enjoy wagon rides, sales, door prizes, goodies and more. Contact 615-563-2222.
