My name is Shelley Walkup and I am announcing my candidacy for Cannon County School Board District 5. I want to introduce myself and my family to you.
My husband Philip and I have been married 22 years this year. We have five children ages 20, 17, 13, 8, and 5. We are proud members of Cannon County and I have been here for most of my life.
I attended Woodbury Grammar and graduated from Cannon County High School (CCHS) in 1992.
Our oldest son Gabriel graduated from CCHS and will be a senor at Maryville College.
Madison graduated from CCHS in May 2014 and will be a freshman at Tennessee Wesleyan College.
Olivia will be in the 8th grade. Norah will be in the 3rd grade and Ezekiel will be in Kindergarten at Woodbury Grammar. Our children have been actively involved in sports, as well as members of Beta, FBLA, FCA, HOSA and other activities. I enjoy being involved in our children’s activities.
I have participated in the PTO at Woodbury Grammar. I have helped with the high school football and basketball boosters. I have been involved with children all my life, from being a child in this school system, a parent, an employee of the school system, through church or coaching little league., In some way or another I have worked alongside other children and adults in our community.
I believe in being active in the community and helping and serving others. We are members of the Woodbury First United Methodist Church. My husband and I were in the United States Marine Corps and were both honorably discharged. I received my Associate’s degree from Motlow State Community College.
I work at the VA hospital in Murfreesboro and I have been employed there since 2007. I will be attending Aquinas College in the fall to complete my degree. I have an interest in your children and my children, the educators and employees that surround our future leaders and I know that having a relationship with them is important.
I am asking for your support as District 5 School Board member. Thank you.
