At this point, there HAS TO BE a song out there to describe just about any situation! For every problem, there is a song lyric.

There are songs that can make you happy and dance up a storm. And, there are songs that can make you sad and cry when you hear them. But, it's not actually the song that makes you cry, it's the people behind the memories that come to mind.

I have those songs and memories and if I hear them start singing: May old acquaintances be forgot and never brought to mind....on New Years Eve, I turn it off....it tears me up!!

Do you ever think of a tune and can't get it out of your head and then start going through the trivia of remembering all the words before you go crazy?

Just how addicted are we to the songs in our life.....think about what it would be like WITHOUT SONGS. Songs and music are everywhere...start listening wherever you go every day....even the morning news has music...songs on your car radio....songs in the grocery stores....drug stores....doctor offices....movie theaters....computers....you name it....SONGS EVERYWHERE! That's okay,,,,You might even start dancing...like I tell all of you to do every week when I sign off. Nothing wrong with that !

Some folks hear peace and songs in nature...language of the earth. Dancing notes in a rippling stream to a chorus like the songs of wind in the trees. JD and I live within the trees....like a tree house in the forest. It is the most beautiful melody you could ever hear. No one could write such a wonderful verse of songs than God. The songwriters go to town and jot down their thoughts and personal experiences in efforts to connect with mankind in every way possible.

Many have succeeded and brought so much joy and comfort to all of us. Many have a gift in doing so....while there are the insane and rebellious...disturbing and basically sick hard rock groups that have not one bit of GOOD to contribute to our young people today.

I thought the acid rock was bad back in the day, but Lord....have you ever listened to this recent stuff....bad words, cussing, spiteful, slashing, bloody mess?!! No wonder that kids today think it's okay to pack a gun, shoot people, set fires, join gangs and kill their parents. Morbid? Yes. True? You bet....!

Like Uncle Festus says: How many punk rock musicians does it take to change a light bulb? TWO. One to screw in the new bulb and one to smash the old one on his forehead!

Enough on that....let's get back to the happy light side of songs and good words and feelings.

From the lullaby to the opera.....songs go on forever and exist everywhere we go. Musicals, weddings, children's songs, country, rock, oldies but goodies, worship,
jazz, dixieland, bluegrass and the list goes on. For every occasion there is a song. Love songs for example.

Cousin Sid always tells his wife Maggie: I find pieces of you in every song I listen to. Maggie tells me that she THINKS it's a compliment, but concentrates on all the songs he listens to, just to make sure!! Reggae, hip-hop, R&B keep us hoppin'.

Where would we be without Holiday songs....because of the songs....Christmas is my favorite holiday....the music is the best gift I could ever receive year after year. Such positive songs create a positive world!

It's amazing how one song can change your mood, thoughts and emotions. People dedicate songs to each other. When someone asks you to listen to a song...it's because the lyrics mean everything they are trying to say.

Plato wrote: Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything.

Cousin Clarence thinks he is the best songwriter of the family. Some of his biggest hits (ha-ha) have been: I'm just a bug on the Windshield of Life. I Changed
her Oil and she Changed my Life. If my Nose was Full of Nickels, I'd Blow it All on You. If the Phone Don't Ring, You Know it's Me. And the latest one: I Can't Take Her to a Dog Fight, Cause I'm Afraid She'd Win.

Uncle Pete told him that in order for him to make a million dollars on his songwriting, he needs to start with two million...! (Amen to that, Pete !)

Cousin Polly asked me: Do ya' know what happens when you play a country song backwards? Well....your wife returns to ya', your dog comes back to life and you get out of prison.

Great uncle Lenny accidentally spilled BEER on the stove and wrote: Foam, Foam on the Range.

Uncle Festus sings to Martha: Her Teeth were Stained, but her Heart was Pure. Then, How Can I Miss Her...When She Won't Go Away?...and then: She's Lookin'
Better After every Beer I Drink. Aunt Martha retaliated with her songs to Festus: Son, Go Fetch a Hammer...There's a Fly on Poppa's Head. and then: Ur the Reason Our Kids are so Ugly. Uh, once again....no one in my family has the flair for songwriting....or singing. All tone deaf and dangerous !!

Actually, I'd rather hear their songs than the one our neighbor's kid wrote: I want my eyelashes to be as black as my soul and as long as the list of people I hate. (on second thought, I think I am going to step up my home security system this week....!) I don't think I can ever look at that child in the same way again.

Well now...here are some neat facts about Songs in our life. Do you know the 10 MOST POPULAR songs of all times? Believe it or not....I just listed the very TIP OF THE ICEBERG in the terrific list of songs throughout the world. Aren't we lucky to experience such a delicacy of life as the song world we exist in from morning to night. How can we be sad, discouraged or sick when we are escorted in every move we make with a melody and heartfelt words that people have been offering to us since the beginning of time? So, believe me that : LIFE IS BUT A SONG....SO LET'S SING IT!!!

I feel so good after I wrote this...it definitely made my day and lightened my spirits...I am hoping it did the same for all of you.

Have a great week...school starts soon, so slow down for those school buses and children walking home. Be happy, do a little dance, love your family and friends and we will chat next week.

HUGS,
Savannah
