Join the church ladies of First Baptist of Ivy Gap as they return to the Arts Center stage celebrating the smashing success of First Baptist’s 100 anniversary picnic. The ladies are giddy with joy except for one little thing: a bolt of lightning that struck the santuary, destroyed the steeple, the organ, and sent the pastor, Edith’s husband, to the hospital.

In order to raise money to rebuild, and perhaps as a way to preoccupy themselves, the ladies come up with the idea of having a big “talent show” for everyone. Lucille is adamantly opposed to the idea since it is, of course, of the devil, but through laughter, tragedy, and showbiz, the church – and the women – survive, stronger than ever.

Directed by Donald Fann and produced by Jill Spry, this show features Karen Lewis as the pastor’s wife Edith and banker’s wife Vera (Nancy Stewart) are joined by Suzanne Oliver as church organist Mae Ellen and Meredith Lane as former Vegas showgirl Olene.

Showtime also features Faye Northcutt-Knox as “Assistant Deputy Sheriff” and mayor’s wife Lucille, who patrols Main Street in a red Caddy, complete with siren. Her daughter-in-law Annie, her new husband in Vietnam, is played by Casey Hindman, caught amid the seasoned women who run the town and the church.

The performance schedule for all shows is Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. and Sundays at 2:00 p.m. Ticket prices are $10 and may be purchased by calling the Arts Center box office at 615-563-(ARTS) 2787 or 1-800-235-9073. A $2 discount for students, seniors or groups over 10 is valid for all performances.

Tickets may also be purchased online at www.artscenterofcc.com. The Arts Center Cafe is open before all performances, so be sure and call in advance for our discounted dinner/show packages.
